The future of our world lies within the minds of our children. It is our responsibility to help shape those minds. As a teacher and parent the education of our children is of the utmost importance . As a homeowner and taxpayer the value I receive for each education tax-dollar is extremely important. A community is judged by the way it educates its children thus an excellent school system benefits our entire community by developing better citizens, increasing property values, and creating a family oriented community. Our schools have achieved state and national recognition and I want to help us maintain those high standards without further program cuts, teacher discord or budget overruns.
VOTE EXPERIENCE- I can bring a working knowledge to the board. As a veteran teacher and previous school board member (Hermosa Beach City School District) I have first hand knowledge as to the workings of a district, its schools, the various and complex state and federal programs, funding and budget needs. I can bring an experienced, level, calm presence to the board.
I currently teach at a high achieving, California Distinguished School that has received many academic and arts awards. I am the President of the School Site Council, Coordinator for the Gifted And Talented Education Program and PTO teacher representative.
Previously, I owned a business which gave me first hand knowledge of how to plan programs, to budget and to oversee personnel. I also have a Master of Fine Arts Degree.
GOALS- Fiscal Responsibility: As an educator for twenty years, I think that the value of quality teaching programs cannot be overemphasized. With two children in our school system, and one MCHS graduate I have an interest in maintaining the highest caliber teaching staffs and programs without sacrificing fiscal responsibility. We need to build a stronger cash reserve and stop the constant requests to parents for funding.
Accountability: I believe that accountability and overseeing of programs is also imperative to the smooth workings of a district. All stake holders need to be involved in decision making, as well as responsible for the outcome. We need to increase communication between board, teachers, parents, and employees. Everyone needs to buy-in and feel they have an active say in their district.
Now is the time to bring in new blood and gain a fresh start. I ask for your vote!
